So much to do, so little hassle

Fort William is the biggest town in the West Highlands and the commercial centre of Lochaber. Big enough to provide everything modern life demands, the town still retains a friendly local feel.

Superb scenery, Highland culture, Ben Nevis, mountains, lochs and rivers, unspoilt beaches, castles, distilleries, outdoor sports year-round... at the centre of Lochaber, Fort William has a well-earned reputation as the outdoor capital of the UK !

While there is plenty of home grown sporting talent, it's the easy access to outdoor sports that makes Fort William and Lochaber such a Mecca for walkers, mountaineers, skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers and just those wanting a family day out with breathtaking scenery for little effort. Sea fishing and of course salmon fishing are part of the fabric of life here, as is stalking the glens for deer. Golfers are well served too, with an 18 hole course at Fort William and nine hole courses in adjacent Spean Bridge or Ballachulish.

If activity sports aren't your thing try the glorious beaches of Mallaig and Morar, following the "road to the isles " or enjoy a meal at one of the many lodges and hotels that abound across Lochaber. The light on the West coast of Scotland is favoured by artists and photographers alike, though if you have no artistic streak you could just sit and watch the fiery hues of the glorious sunset over a wee dram.
