micro wind generating

A LONG TERM APPROACH

We've taken a long term approach to building our unique style of developments. Including timber frame construction, most of the fabric of the buildings is from renewable or recycled / recyclable materials. Carbon zero mineral wool insulation ensures that the homes are easy to keep warm and cosy.

A question often asked is "are there any solar or wind power add-ons?" The short answer is no, but the reason is far from simple. New homes have a long life expectancy, while micro-generating is in its infancy and is expensive without being very efficient. As technology advances, this balance will improve but to use the technology presently available would carry a significant cost to the home buyer - not just at the point of purchase but within the life of the home as these kind of products have a limited service life. There are other more practical and cost-effective ways to reduce carbon footprint using proven methods.

THE FUTURE'S BRIGHT

The decision to make the homes all-electric is both practical (there's no mains gas in most of Scotland) and forward thinking: fossil fuels are finite and will run out eventually - possibly within the lifespan of these homes. Micro-generating can be incorporated in the future as technology improves and meanwhile, using the latest Smart Metering technology, homeowners can reap the benefits of off-peak tariffs without storage heaters. Scotland has one of the highest levels of "green" electricity generation in the world, presently accounting for around a fifth of total production. The target is to increase this to 50% by 2020 and in the long term for Scotland to become a net exporter of renewable energy.

Our design allows each room to be heated by effIcient slimline programmable panel heaters that are individually thermostatically controlled, giving you control over each room and heat only when you need it, without wastage. Hot water cylinders are heated overnight on the cheap rate tariff, with a boost facility should you need it. Windows are low-emmissivity uPVC with thermal coated glass and even the internal partition walls are insulated. Appliances and white goods are A or B rated for efficiency wherever specification allows.
